Evertonians will have the chance to permanently leave their mark on Goodison Park, as part of new plans to restore the Club’s famous Dixie Dean statue to its original home and reshape the entrance to the stadium.
The statue, which was unveiled in May 2001 to celebrate the greatest goalscorer in the history of English football, will be the centrepiece of a brand new gateway to Goodison and will be surrounded by a commemorative wall made up of personalised engraved stones, produced and supplied by Investors in Sport, that supporters can purchase.
The new area, which will be called Dixie’s Wall of Fame, has been the focus of a project co-ordinated by the Everton Fans’ Forum alongside the Club.
The group of supporters, who meet monthly to discuss and input into key Club decisions, have been given the opportunity to actively participate and drive the project through from concept to completion.
Chairman of the Fans’ Forum, Tony Bott, said: “We’re really proud to have worked on a project that will forever leave its mark on the history of our Club. Dixie Dean encompasses all that is great about Everton and I’ve no doubt that many Evertonians will be proud to take up their place on Dixie’s Wall of Fame.
“The new area is one that that both the Club and its supporters can be proud of, and where our glorious heritage will sit side by side with our future to become a focal meeting point for fans at our beloved stadium.
“It’s the first time fans have been able to take up this opportunity to actually leave their mark on Goodison Park and I’ve no doubt it will be incredibly popular.”
The dedicated area will be unveiled on 5 May, the anniversary of Dixie Dean’s 60th league goal, and construction work is set to begin later this month.
The commemorative wall around the Dixie Dean statue will be made up of three varying sizes of ‘Goodison Granites’, that will be engraved with personalised messages from supporters.
The single Goodison Granite can feature a message of 15 characters per line on two lines and costs £50, whilst the double Goodison Granite at £99 can house any one of the 11 crests that have adorned the playing shirts throughout the Club’s history to feature alongside a message of 15 characters per line on three lines. The celebration Goodison Granite costs £399 and can feature any crest alongside a message of 23 characters per line on three lines.
The personalised stones can be purchased exclusively online at evertonfc.com/goodisongranites
